***Edit 10/19/08*** Really nothing too major, just looking at this one again and changed the face and the leg a bit.
***Original Submission 11/3/05*** Ok, I know, a little late for baseball season, but this is one of the final pieces for the 2006 calendar. The uniform is based off of the old AAGPBL (All American Girls Professional Baseball League) uniforms. I don't know if there was ever a team with the colors of blue and yellow, but it seemed like a nice combination for that fresh spring feel. This will either be March or April, I haven't decided %100 yet.
The AAGPBL, despite the uniforms, was actually a pretty big step forward for women in the 20th century. They really stepped up the the plate as it were (no punn intended) and really pushed the envelope as much as Rosie the Riveter in a visible, iconographic way that people could really see.
A little trivia for you: if you look real closely there on her sleeve, the patch reads R-G GPBL, RG standing for Retro Girl
Yet another simply amazing piece from a praise-worthy artist.

Hmmm... Any inspiration from Madonna's character in 'A League of Their Own'? It reminded me of her because she has dark hair and she's blowing gum. Just thought I'd ask. Lovely piece, I always thought the uniforms were cute.
I really like thes Pin-up-50's-style series, these retro girls are very cute and very stylised !! It reminds me the looong dissertation I did for my master in University... (about image of US women and Walt Disney and Tex Avery cartoons)
Meanwhile, I would LOOOOVE to see a baseball play, even in real or on TV... I never saw anything of that kind v___v
