Description

Design number 2 for the clothing contest. I don't know if I'm hurting myself or helping with more than one entry, so it may be that I delete one before the deadline, but I like each design for its own individual reasons, so that might make it a hard call.

I started this almost immediately after I finished the first one on Monday night. As it happened, I had to be up early at 5am, so when it was already 2am, I figured it might be easier to stay up than try to wake up in a few hours. I got a good chunk done before I left, but then fell asleep as soon as got home and didn't get to finish it till now. Again, keeping to 6 colors was a definate challenge, but I think I pulled through it ok.

As mentioned with the last one, the theme of the contest is 'being a deviant,' specifically, about being artists, deviating from the norm, ourselves, and anything else that fuels our work.

The devil/angel theme is nothing new, but it was chosen for that specific purpose. I wanted something that was more of a standard archetype so the deviation from it would have more emphasis, but then, you probably already figured that out ;)

At least for myself, I've never been one to fit into standard 'categories' or sterotypes (the term here being used not in a derogatory fashion). Personally, I've always found myself in the middle of a lot of different groups. I do visual arts (obviously) but I've also done performing. I do 2-d art, but I also do sculpting. I work digitally, but I also work traditionally. I like fine art, but I also like fanart. I love Shakespeare, but I also love Monty Python. On a very personal level, this was about my own feelings of carring bits of everything with me.

On a broader scale, it is also about the idea that there are no clear cut definitions in this world. In the very obvious sense, I do not believe there is such a thing as all good or all bad. I think there is always a balance in each, though one might outweigh the other. To carry that idea one step further, I think we're all a composite of our experiences, our interests, our friends, our hopes. I do not think there is a single person out there that exactly matches any given catagorization, even if they come very very close, there will always be some other influence.

But I've talked too much now ;) Hope you enjoy and maybe this is something you've felt, too :)
