I really didn't have time to do this....I really didn't....
But most of you know how I feel about fanart as an artform in and of itself and if a company is willing to show their respect for the genre by teaming up on a contest like this, especially for a game that really took a chance artistically, I feel a need to show that same respect and appreciation in turn by participating in some way. I started working on it and stopped a hundred times, but like I said, I really felt strongly about doing something, so I took some time today to finish.
At any rate, for the Okami Fanart contest, I started out going the sumi-e route, but it just didn't feel like it was saying anything new, so I latched on to the Kabuki tradition as something related artistically and this is where I ended up.
Media: Line art-Brown Colerase on Dura-lene, Background is a piece of papyrus paper I have & scanned, writings are brushes I made from my writing, all other painting done with a combination of Photoshop and Painter.
this is a cool take on the game! unfortunately, i've never played it (DYING to), but out of all the art i've seen of it, yours is among the most original. the colors and the lighting are so wonderful!

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
