Description

*Note: Yes, this is a mixed media piece. The base is done with dark umber watercolor pencil and wash while the color is done in Photoshop. Yes, that technically puts it under the heading of digital art, but since it looks tradional, devArt admin said to put it in traditional.*

Well, I know I'm a day early, but happy Mardi Gras 2004 everyone :aww:

Represented here is the triad of Mardi Gras depicted as women.

From left to right: Green which represents Faith, Purple which represents Justice, and Gold which represents Power. I decided for this piece, though the art nouveau style fit, I wanted it to have more the look of the poster art of the same time, almost Toulouse Lautrec, but a bit more rendered.

Mardi Gras has long since been one of my favorite holidays, though I've never been to one of the celebrations. Not so much for the drinking and everything else that goes along with it, but the sheer decadence and pagentry of it all. It's just so bright and vibrant that I find myself undeniably drawn in. Also, the way it seems to envelope a whole city to me is just fascinating.

Medium: Watercolor drawing and wash on paper, color toning added later in Photoshop.
