*Note: Not Vector Art. See media description*

A stylized self-portrait. Just recently, I had to quit my job of the last 6 years to make more time for school and building my portfolio. It was the right choice, but still a hard one to make. It's like dropping your safetynet. I kept being reminded of the 1930's Hollywood hopeful taking the train out of the midwest with just a suitcase and her dreams. Well, I've got more than a suitcase, but that was the closest way I could come to expressing the feeling of change. We always talk about the crossroads in our life and I know this is one for me. I just have to do what it takes to make this a good one ;)

Medium: Original sketch drawn over in Photoshop with the pen tool, not vectors since the lines and shapes rasterize. It is similar process, but by devart definitions, anything that rasterizes is not vector art. Details added with brush tool.

Wow, that's about to be me in a little while too. I want to quit my stupid, dry, and boring job and try to do murals full time. Its a scary risk But I really want to take a chance to do something that I LOVE to do for once. I'll have 4-5 months to get a business started until I join the Americorps in August. Thanks for the lovely image. So how did your big adventure turn out for you? :+fav:

Lovely picture. :) I like the retro-simplicity here, and how it really gives you the feel of an old movie about the girl going to seek for her fortune.

 I know, change isn't easy. (Didn't we just go on about that on AIM tonight? ;) ) Going to Florida was tough for me, but then leaving Disney was tough too. Funny after all those months of "I wanna go home to my family!" But we get used to it, make friends, and so on. When it comes time to give up anything like that, it's hard.

Awww... sniff, she looks so wistful. Maybe some perky Hollywood style travelling music will cheer her up.
Bonne chance on your delving back into the job market, GQ :)

Adorable! I love how you drew this -- the pose is great, and I love everything about her (erm, your) head. That sounds strange, but I meant eyes, lips, hair, hat, all of it! The trunks are great, too -- it is so very 1940's!

I also love the story behind this picture. You're always so very creative! This is the perfect way to get those feelings across -- waiting there at the Depot with just a suitcase and your dreams. Just fantastic!
