*Note: Not Vector Art. See media description*

The latest Retro Girl :) A mermaid as a Retro Girl? you say? Why yes :) Thinking retro, I always remember these ceramic mermaids my grandparents have had hanging over their bathtub for as long as I can remember. Granted, they look nothing like this and I have no idea when they are really from, but it's more about the nostalgia ;)

This is another piece I did the sketch for months ago, but with finishing the calendar, it got put on hold.

Medium: Original sketch drawn over in Photoshop with the pen tool, not vectors since the lines and shapes rasterize. It is similar process, but by devart definitions, anything that rasterizes is not vector art. Details added with brush tool.

*Edit* Added some bubbles for balance, thanks for the suggestion, ~ExiledSnake :)

"anything that rasterizes is not vector art" sucking as badly as I do at creating art in photoshop it's not a wonder that that particular statement confuses me. Nevertheless, Could you expound on that a bit for me so I can better understand the differences? Im not terribly familiar with the process of vectoring... I thought 'rasterizing' enabled the shape to be re-sized without loss of detail... doesnt a vector possess that same quality? *is curious* :D

Just because perfection is impossible, doesn’t mean I've given up attempting to achieve it. :aww:

Like the way you did her hair. Very cute. Ah, I must recommend a book to you since I am currently on a rant about it. It's called the Katurran Odessey by Terry Whitlatch. It has the most amazing animal drawings I've seen, and there's even a picture with a gerenuk! And lemurs. You must see it!

Reno + Moomba = Axel....?

No, in terms of vectors, rasterizing means that it can no longer be resized without loss of quality. What photoshop uses is not even a vector to begin with though. It is a path. You construct it the same way you would a vector, but a vector is a mathmatical reference point so to speak so that you could do something at 50x50 pixels persay, then enlarge it to 2000x2000 pixels and the mathmatical relations stay the same, so the quality is just as crisp. In Photoshop, what the path does is create a selection area you can then fill with a color, but it is like any other shape in Photoshop, if you try to enlarge it to much, it will get pixelated and blurry.
