I've been wanting to do a Fullmetal Alchemist piece for awhile now, but I was stuck on trying to come up with something that hadn't been done at least a hundred times over already ;) Then ~PZB brought over the first dvd the other night and we were talking about how much we both liked the coat and it hit me it would be fun to do something centered on that. First off, it's a cool coat, second, it's one of those iconographic things that you can easily relate to the show while still maintaining a degree of subtlty. Ok, bright red coat, not all that subtle, but you know what I mean ;)

It's funny because *Tenshiryuu tried to tell me about this show almost a year ago, but sadly, resources being what they are, I hadn't been able to check it out until Cartoon Network started running it. Have to say, I'm pretty hooked now, though. All of the characters are really pretty well developed and it has a good balance between the drama and the comedy.

Medium: Lineart done with Col-erase brown pencil, painting done in Painter 8

I'll have to restrain myself so I don't go into fangirl mode and drool over poor Ed. ^^;
Very nice - I love the simplicity of it. :3 It's not big and flashy, but rather warm and uhm... for lack of better word, it has a nostalgic feeling about it.

Thank you, that's exactly what I wanted, that kind of understated, 'if you get it you get it, if you don't you don't' thing.

Nicely done, and the sepia-toned background really brings out the coat's colors.

And yes, it is a nice coat. ;)

Well, not that late, really. I just had some other things to get done and then I wanted to get through the deviations in my box before putting it up.

I've been wanting to see this, and almost bought the first volume the other day - it looks excellent. And so does this piece - I love the way that his coat is bright and muted at the same time ... you really have a way with your use of color.

It's funny because it turns out the first episode I saw on CN that I thought was was episode 1 turned out to be episode 3. Personally, I'm glad I started there because the first two are kindof like a pilot to show what the show is going to be like once it's in full swing and it's not till episode 3 that you really get to the emotional heart of the matter.
